Calling Cards

A Northwestel Calling Card is your key to long distance convenience. Use your card when you're away from home, and charge calls to your Northwestel account. It's the easy way to stay in touch from almost anywhere in the world.

There is no charge to get a Northwestel Calling Card, and you can request extra cards for family or household members at no charge.

  • Rates for Long Distance Calls

    Long distance calling card calls that use Northwestel's transport facilities or services and originate or terminate in Northwestel's operating area are billed to your Northwestel account at the per-minute rates in effect with your Northwestel long distance calling plan.

    Long distance calling card calls that originate or terminate outside Northwestel's operating area (e.g., Vancouver to Toronto) are billed to your Northwestel account at the rates in effect at the time of your call for the telephone company in the location where the call originated.

    The following updated surcharges also apply to long distance calling card calls within North America effective May 22, 2013:

    • Automated calling card calls: $2.00 per call
    • Operator-assisted calling card calls: $2.75 per call
  • Rate for Local Calls

    Local calls placed using your Northwestel Calling Card are charged to your Northwestel account at a rate of $1.00 per call.

  • Calling Card Security

    Northwestel Calling Cards are secure. Your complete calling card number consists of a 10-digit number that appears on the front of the card, plus a secret 4-digit Personal Identification Number (PIN) that is programmed when you order your calling card. The PIN is not recorded on the card and is not embedded in the magnetic strip on the back.

    To ensure the security of your Northwestel Calling Card:

    Do not give out your calling card PIN. Anyone with access to or knowledge of your calling card number and PIN will be able to make long distance calls and charge them to your Northwestel account. You are responsible for all calling card charges to your account, regardless of who makes the calls.

    Report a lost or stolen card immediately by calling 1 888 423-2333.

    If your card is lost or stolen, or you're concerned somebody else may know your PIN, call 1 888 423-2333 to have the PIN changed immediately.

    If you forget your PIN or wish to change it, call 1 888 423-2333.

  • Using Your Northwestel Calling Card

    To place a Long Distance call from Canada or the United States:

    • Dial 1 800 555-1111
    • Following the prompts to enter your calling card number and PIN, as well as the number you are calling.
  • To place a Long Distance call from outside North America:

    To place a Long Distance call from outside North America:

    • Enter the Canada Direct access number for the country you are calling from.
    • Following the prompts to enter your calling card number and PIN, as well as the number you are calling.
    • For Canada Direct access numbers, check the Northwestel website, or call 1 800 561-8868 before you leave Canada.

     

  • To place a Local call from a Northwestel Payphone:

    Dial 0 + area code + the number you are calling

  • Calling Card Rate Changes

    Northwestel is increasing the surcharge rates for select call types due to increased operating costs. The following rate changes will become effective on May 22, 2013, and apply to residential and business customers. Direct Dialed Local and Long Distance calls are not subject to per call surcharges.
