Northwestel’s sponsorship program is about our partnerships with locally established organizations and businesses. These partnerships allow Northwestel to give back to the northern community by contributing to these four pillars of support:
- Health & Mental Wellness
- Arts & Culture
- Youth Initiatives
- Indigenous Community & Culture
In 2014, Northwestel invested $229,000 in combined health and mental wellness services through initiatives such as Northwestel’s Festival of Trees in partnership with the Yukon Hospital Foundation and Northwestel’s Festival of Giving in partnership with the Stanton Territorial Hospital. By January 2015, the Whitehorse General Hospital – through the help of these events and sponsorships – was able to acquire an MRI Machine.
More than $133,000 was contributed to support arts and cultural initiatives such as the Directory Cover Art Contest, Nunavut Arts Festival, Northwestel’s Art Lovers Series, and Alianait Arts Festival. Northwestel invests and participates with various partners to contribute back to the community by promoting creative expression.
Northwestel has invested more than $215,000 towards helping organizations such as Beaufort Delta Education Council (BDEC), Aurora College, NWT Literacy Council, Fort Nelson Public Library, Special Olympics and Sport North. We believe in supporting youth and education initiatives because they are critical to the progress of northern development.
Indigenous culture comprises the majority of the North, and Northwestel is invested in promoting & preserving indigenous heritage and culture. In 2014, more than $44,000 was donated to support programs such as National Indigenous Day, First Nations Emerging Leaders Gathering and First Nation graduation ceremonies.
