Unlimited Fibre Internet from Northwestel now available in Inuvik

Inuvik, NT – Unlimited Fibre Internet from Northwestel has landed in the Arctic Circle. Inuvik residential and business customers are now able to order the North’s fastest Internet speeds. Inuvik becomes the second Fibre-to-the-home community in the NWT, following Hay River. Both projects were funded entirely by Northwestel.

With speeds up to 250 Mbps, Inuvik’s new residential Fibre Internet plans will deliver up to 16x faster Internet than previously offered by the company, at the same rates available in Yellowknife. Customers can now also add unlimited data to their plan.

“It is beyond exciting to introduce Fibre Internet and unlimited data to Inuvik customers. We appreciate the community’s patience with the extra measures we have put in place to complete installation during this special time,” says Northwestel President Curtis Shaw. “I want to recognize our northern employees for their tireless efforts to make Inuvik the first Canadian Fibre-to-the-home community in the Arctic Circle.” 

 

Keeping the community safe

Northwestel has implemented special procedures for Fibre Internet requests in Inuvik to ensure customer and employee safety during the COVID-19 situation:

  1. Only single dwelling businesses and homes will be completed in the first phase of this project. Multi-dwelling homes (apartment buildings) require a more complex installation which will be done at a later phase.
  2. Customers are encouraged to request Fibre Internet online at nwtel.ca. This is to minimize congestion in our northern call centres at this critical time. After an online request is submitted, the customer will receive a confirmation email with more information.
  3. Northwestel will observe proper health and safety in the customer home. A home visit is required to install service. Technicians will run fibre optic cable into the home and connect it to a new Optical Network Terminal (ONT) modem. Customers can connect wired devices directly to the modem or add a wireless router to create a local Wi-Fi network.

Inuvik residential customers can take advantage of a special introductory 25% discount on new Fibre Internet plans for the first four months of service. Customers can learn more and request Fibre Internet at nwtel.ca.
