two smiling speed skaters

For an ice-cold sport, these pics will melt your heart.

When the Iqaluit Speed Skating Club asked Northwestel to sponsor their Learn to Skate program, we saw an opportunity to support the development of important life skills in young northerners.  Skills like teamwork, safety and determination.  And hopefully we’d help put some smiles on some young faces.

Judging by the pics the skating club sent us... mission accomplished.

Congratulations to all the budding short-track speed skaters who took part in this year’s season.  From those just being introduced to the sport to those who have been participating for several years, the skaters practiced speed skating fundamentals with a focus on safety and technique.  They took part in friendly competitions, all while making new friends.

Northwestel is proud to provide $30,000 in support towards safety equipment, skates and awesome new skin suits.  Congratulations kids.

Enjoy these pics as we wait for next year’s season to start. I’m not tearing up, you’re tearing up.
