Northwestel introduces affordable entry-level home Internet plan; drops rates on top speed home plans.
February 16th, 2023, Whitehorse YT, Yellowknife NWT - Northwestel is taking action to make top speed Internet plans more affordable and introducing a more affordable entry-level Internet plan. Northwestel’s fastest home Internet plan Unlimited Internet 500 will drop by $20/month, and Unlimited Internet 300 will decrease by $10/month. In addition, the company is introducing a new home Internet 15 plan for $57.95/month.
These plans are or will be available in most fibre-powered communities on March 1st 2023 for both fibre to the neighbourhood and fibre to the home. Northwestel plans to bring fibre service to 18 more northern communities across the Yukon and Northwest Territories in 2023. By the end of this year, 90% of homes in land-served Yukon and Northwest Territories communities will have access to home Internet plans with 500 Mbps speeds with unlimited data.
Northwestel can implement these changes thanks to a new regulatory process that streamlines our ability to introduce customer-benefitting new plans and rate reductions.
This new plan and price drop are the latest in a series of actions taken by Northwestel to make services more affordable and bring more value to northerners. Since 2020, Northwestel reduced rates or added value for no additional charge to Internet plans several times. This includes the introduction of the new $20 bundle credit for Northwestel Internet and Bell Mobility customers, 50 Mbps speed increases on unlimited Internet plans, and the reduction of unlimited plan rates by up to $11/month.
“We’re finding ways to save northerners money and bring them more value, all while delivering the fastest speeds in the north. We look forward to bringing faster speeds at these lower rates to even more communities in 2023.” - Tammy April, Vice-President of Customer Experience
Northerners who subscribe to Unlimited Internet 300 and 500 do not need to take any action. They will see the reduced rate reflected on their March service bills. To learn more about these plans visit nwtel.ca/Internet.
