Northwestel launches fibre Internet in Nahanni Butte and Aklavik, NWT
June 5th, 2023, Yellowknife, NWT - Northwestel launched fibre Internet to 2 more communities in the NWT, Aklavik and Nahanni Butte. Residents can now enjoy access to high-speed, unlimited fibre Internet.
Community members can surf, stream and game with speeds of up to 50 Mbps (up from 15 Mbps previously), with the peace of mind of unlimited Internet. Businesses can take advantage of more cloud services, faster document transfers, and better quality video calls.
“We know how important fast, unlimited Internet access is to northerners. It can improve access to health care, distance education, and other services that enable people to stay in their own communities. We're happy to now provide this level of connectivity to Nahanni Butte and Aklavik” - Curtis Shaw, President, Northwestel
These fibre upgrades are part of Northwestel’s Every Community Project, a 3-year project to bring high-speed unlimited internet to 10,000 homes across the Northwest Territories and Yukon. Northwestel plans to complete 17 more communities this year, including 6 in the Northwest Territories. The improvements are funded by the CRTC Broadband Fund as well as Northwestel’s own significant investments.
Customers can order the new fibre Internet services online at www.nwtel.ca/internet
