Where to place your modem

The location of your modem affects the Wi-Fi signal and the quality of your internet connection. Here's some tips to help you improve your Wi-Fi signal and connection.

  • Place your modem in a central location, as close to the centre of your home as possible where there is an active coax outlet.
  • Make sure your modem is out in the open and not blocked by furniture or any other objects.
  • Where possible, keep your modem away from things that can block or interfere with the signal. These include the following:
    • Appliances like microwave ovens, fridges and freezers
    • Electronic devices, including Bluetooth devices, cordless phones, and baby monitors
    • Fish tanks
    • Behind doors in a TV stand or entertainment centre cabinet
    • Garage door openers
    • Mirrors
    • Heavily insulated walls
    • Brick or concrete walls
    • Metal doors and objects
