It’s the journey that makes the champion.

With just a week to go before the 2016 Arctic Winter Games in Greenland, Ruby took on a new challenge. Tempted by the opportunity to compete and travel, she traded her cross-country skiis for a pair of snowshoes and joined the Northwest Territories’ snowshoe biathlon team. 

“It was nerve wracking and being on snow-shoes when I’m used to skiing was a huge change for me because they’re so different. But once I got there and, in the race, all those nerves went away as I was so focused on the race.”

Ruby excelled in 2016. And in 2018, she picked her skiis up again to compete in the cross-country ski biathlon. Being a champion is about having fun, diving into new experiences head-first and giving it your all, no matter what.
