Smart choices for a warmer Yukon winter.
Yukoners, smart thermostats and hot water tank controllers are now easier to find and with bigger rebates than ever before! Northwestel offers a selection of Peak Smart-eligible Sinopé and Mysa devices, so you can shop locally and take full advantage of Yukon Energy's Peak Smart Home Program.
What is Peak Smart?
Peak Smart is a program designed to help balance energy use during the busiest times of the day, like cold winter mornings when energy demand spikes. By connecting your smart devices to the program, Yukon Energy can make small, seamless changes to your devices—keeping your home comfortable while easing pressure on the grid. Thermostats preheat your home before peak demand hours and then lower temperatures slightly during the peaks, while hot water tank controllers shift heating cycles to off-peak periods. These small, seamless adjustments ease pressure on the grid, reduce reliance on diesel power, and improve energy reliability for everyone across the Yukon.
The Peak Smart program is open to communities connected to the Yukon’s main power grid. Unfortunately, it’s unavailable in Beaver Creek, Burwash Landing, Destruction Bay, Old Crow, Swift River, Upper Liard, and Watson Lake. The full list of eligibility criteria, as well as the terms and conditions, can be found on the Peak Smart website.
Renters can join too! If you have your own utility account, you’re eligible to participate. Just check in with your landlord or property manager before enrolling.
