Securing your internet connection
Northwestel has security measures in place to protect our systems. You're responsible for maintaining the security of devices on your network. Here’s some tips for how to secure your Wi-Fi network and protect your internet connection from unauthorized use.
Set a password on your Wi-Fi network. A good password is one that people can’t easily guess. You may also want to change the password from time to time.
When your internet service is installed by a Northwestel technician, the technician will set a password that you choose, if you have a Northwestel modem with a built-in router. If you want, you can change the password again at any time. To learn more, see:

If you're using a third-party router, you'll need to check the documentation for your router to learn how to set or change a password.
The name of your Wi-Fi network (also called a SSID) is typically a preset name that's defined by the manufacturer.

Encryption protects the data on your Wi-Fi network by scrambling it so that it's unreadable by unauthorized users and devices. It's a setting that's enabled on the router. When your internet service is installed by a Northwestel technician, encryption is automatically enabled.
