How to set up Wi-Fi Pods

This article guides you through how to install your Wi-Fi Pods for your Northwestel Wi-Fi with Plume HomePass service. Setup takes only a few minutes.

  • Northwestel Wi-Fi with Plume HomePass. The modem that you get with your Northwestel Internet plan includes the HomePass service.
  • Your Wi-Fi Pods.
  • An Apple iOS or Android device. Your device must be running iOS version 14 or later, or Android OS 7.0 or later.

Make sure your Northwestel Internet service is set up and your Wi-Fi network is up and running.

Connect your Apple iOS or Android device to your Wi-Fi network, and then download and install the HomePass app (if you haven’t already).

  1. On your iOS or Android device, go to the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store.
  2. In the search box, type  HomePass by Plume, and then select the app in the search results.
  3. Follow the on-screen instructions to download and install the app.

  1. Open the HomePass app, and tap Sign in
  2. Enter your email address, and then tap Next to receive a Magic Link in email that you'll use to sign in.

Read Where to set up Pods in your home for guidance on where to place Pods for the best performance.

  1. Choose the best location for your Pods in your home. You can always move your Pods later if you need to adjust or improve coverage.
  2. On the Home screen of the HomePass app, scroll to the Adapt section. You’ll see the following:
    • Under Gateway, your modem appears as active and online.
    • Under Others, your Pods show as inactive (red) and offline. Pods are preregistered to your Northwestel account, which is how the app knows they belong to you.
  3. If you don’t see one or more of your Pods in the app, manually add it. Tap , and then choose Add a Pod. The app searches for and adds the Pod. When you see it in the app, tap All done.

Note: If the app is still unable to find the Pod, plug the Pod into an electrical outlet, and check to see whether the light on the Pod is on. If the light isn’t on, try plugging it into a different electrical outlet.

  4. Plug your Pods into electrical outlets around your home.

You’ll see a light on each Pod, which turns solid for a moment, and then starts to slowly pulse as the Pod connects to your modem. When a Pod makes the connection to your modem, the light turns off. The connection process can take anywhere between two and five minutes.

  5. On the Home screen of the HomePass app, go to the Adapt section.
Under Others, each Pod now shows as white, which means it’s connected and online. You’ll also see the health status of each Pod, which is an indicator of connection quality.
After you set up your Pods, you can view, monitor, and manage them in the HomePass app.

Each Pod comes with a default name when you first set it up. It’s a good idea to rename your Pods to make it easier to identify them and their location in your home. Choose a descriptive name. For example, Kids room or Hallway.

  1. On the Home screen of the HomePass app, go to the Adapt section.
  2. Tap the Pod you want to rename.
  3. On the Pod details page, tap , and then choose Rename Pod. The light on the Pod starts blinking to let you know it’s the one you chose.
  4. Enter a new name, and then tap Save.

That’s it! You’re set up and ready to enjoy your whole home Wi-Fi experience.
