Moving your services

Moving? Here’s what you need to know to make your move as smooth as possible

Contact us with as much advance notice as possible to arrange moving your services to your new address. You’ll need to provide us with the following information:

  • Your account number.
  • The date of your move.
  • Your new address.
  • A phone number where you can be reached during your move.
  • In some cases, you may also be asked to provide a lease, rental agreement, or proof of ownership.

Depending on the services you’re moving, a visit by a Northwestel technician may be needed to perform the installation. If a technician is needed, we’ll book an appointment for a time that’s convenient for you.

Pack up all your equipment and bring it with you to your new home. This includes modems, TV Set Top boxes or receivers, phones, cords, cables, battery back up and so on.

Important!

If you have fibre service at your current location, please do not remove the Optical Network Terminal (ONT) which is usually installed near where the lines come into your building (see pictures of ONT below).  If you subscribe to Northwestel Wi-Fi, please bring the modem with you to your new location.

If you have Cable Phone service at your current location, please do not remove the eMTA cable modem because it is considered part of the current premises (see picture of eMTA* device below).   In the event of an emergency, moving the eMTA to a new address without notifying us could result in emergency services being dispatched to the wrong address.

* This is the current model of eMTA. Yours may look different.

A move fee will be charged to your next bill following the move. The fee amount will depend on the services that are moved and whether a technician visit is needed. We can give you a quote for the cost to move your services (with the exception of inside wiring and materials), as needed.
