What to expect after you set up Wi-Fi Pods

Your Wi-Fi Pods work together with your modem to extend and optimize Wi-Fi coverage throughout your home. With Plume HomePass, your Wi-Fi network learns and adapts to your environment and usage to optimize performance for all your connected devices.

Keep in mind that after you install your Pods, it takes up to 24 hours for your Wi-Fi network to optimize. This means that you might not experience changes in Wi-Fi performance until your Pods complete this process. The same applies if you move Pods or add more Pods. As HomePass learns and adapts to your needs, optimization strengthens over time.

Here’s an overview of what to expect after you set up your Pods:

  • Over the first 24 hours, your Wi-Fi network optimizes to create the best performance for your connected devices. After you set up your Pods, HomePass discovers the devices on your network, identifies the flow of traffic, and starts to optimize your Wi-Fi.
  • Over the next few weeks, HomePass tunes and optimizes even further to refine performance. For example, HomePass allocates more Wi-Fi capacity to the devices and areas of your home that need it the most.
  • In a month or two, depending on the number of devices on your network and level of activity, HomePass starts predictive and pre-emptive optimization. This means that HomePass can predict your Wi-Fi needs each day based on your usage patterns and neighbouring network interference.

Here’s a couple examples of how it works:

  • HomePass learns usage patterns, like where and when you use Wi-Fi in your home and distributes the signal to those rooms and devices that need it. Say, for example, you work in your home office from 9 to 5, and your kids play video games in the living room for an hour after school. HomePass learns this and funnels the appropriate amount of coverage to each person.
  • If a change occurs that affects your Wi-Fi performance, like an increase in the number of connected devices or interference from a neighbour’s Wi-Fi network, HomePass adapts and adjusts to maintain your Wi-Fi experience.
