How to use Call Waiting

Call Waiting lets you know that someone is calling you when you’re already on the phone. You’ll hear a beep to indicate an incoming call, which you can then choose to answer or ignore.

When you’re on the phone, and you hear a beep, do one of the following, depending on whether you want to answer or ignore the incoming call.

Answer the incoming call

If you want to put the first person on hold and answer the incoming call

Press the Link or Flash button or press the switch hook to put the first person on hold and connect to the incoming call with the second person.
To return to the call with the first person or to switch between calls, press the Link button or Flash button or press the switch hook.

If you want to end the call with the first person before you answer the incoming call

Hang up the call with the first person. Your phone will ring with the incoming call.

Ignore the incoming call

You don’t need to do anything when you hear the beep.

  • If you subscribe to Voicemail, the caller can leave a message.
  • If you don’t subscribe to Voicemail, the caller hears ringing until they hang up.

If you don’t want to be interrupted by the Call Waiting beep during a call, you can temporarily turn off Call Waiting before you make a call.

  1. Pick up your phone, and then dial *70.
  2. Dial the number you want to call.

Call Waiting is turned off for the duration of your call. If someone calls you, one of the following happens:

  • If you subscribe to Voicemail, the caller can leave a message.
  • If you don’t subscribe to Voicemail, the caller gets a busy signal.

When you end the call, Call Waiting automatically turns on again. Repeat these steps each time you want to turn off Call Waiting for a call.
