How to use Call Waiting ID

Call Waiting ID works together with Call Waiting and Call Display. If you subscribe to all three features, you’ll hear a beep and you’ll also see the phone number of an incoming caller when you’re already on the phone.

When you’re on the phone, and you hear a beep and see the number of the incoming caller, do one of the following, depending on whether you want to answer or ignore the incoming call.

Answer the incoming call

If you want to put the first person on hold and answer the incoming call

Press the Link or Flash button or press the switch hook to put the first person on hold and connect to the incoming call with the second person.
To switch between calls, press the Link or Flash button or press the switch hook.

If you want to end the call with the first person and answer the incoming call

Hang up the call with the first person. Your phone will ring with the incoming call.

Ignore the incoming call

You don’t need to do anything.

  • If you subscribe to Voicemail, the caller can leave a message.
  • If you don’t subscribe to Voicemail, the caller hears ringing until they hang up.

If you don’t want to be interrupted by the Call Waiting beep and caller number during a call, you can temporarily turn off Call Waiting ID before you make a call. Turning off Call Waiting ID also turns off Call Waiting.

  1. Pick up your phone, and then dial *70.
  2. Dial the number you want to call.

Call Waiting ID and Call Waiting are turned off for the duration of your call. If someone calls you, one of the following happens:

  • If you subscribe to Voicemail, the caller can leave a message.
  • If you don’t subscribe to Voicemail, the caller gets a busy signal.

When you end the call, Call Waiting ID and Call Waiting are automatically turned on again. Repeat these steps each time you want to turn off Call Waiting ID and Call Waiting for a call.

Here are a few things to keep in mind when using Call Waiting ID.

Some numbers might not be displayed

The number of an incoming call might not be displayed if:

  • The person blocked their number.
  • The number is unlisted, in which case, it displays as Private Number.
  • The call is from a long distance number. In some cases, limitations with the switching equipment in the caller’s community or your community might prevent the number from being displayed.
