Smart Ring

Smart Ring lets you add a second phone number to your existing line. The second number has a distinctive ring to make it easy to identify incoming calls.

You can request a specific number for your Smart Ring number, but keep in mind that the number might already be in use or not available.

You’ll see your Smart Ring number listed in the Northwestel phone book on an indented line under your main number. You can choose the name you want listed for your Smart Ring number.

With Smart Ring, each calling feature you subscribe to works for both numbers.

  • If you subscribe to voicemail on your main number, and a caller dials your Smart Ring number, the incoming call goes to voicemail.
  • If you subscribe to Call Screen, incoming calls from your call screen list are screened, regardless of which number they call you on.
  • If you subscribe to Call Waiting, and you’re already on the phone, you’ll hear a beep when you have an incoming call on your Smart Ring number.

If you have a fax machine, set it to answer on four or more rings. Otherwise, the fax machine will pick up the call before you answer the phone.
