NHL blackouts

This article provides an overview of NHL blackouts that apply within Northwestel’s operating area.

Blackouts are restrictions set by sports leagues and associations and apply to all TV providers, including Northwestel. NHL blackouts are set by the National Hockey League and can vary from team to team.

Blackouts can be set for cities, communities, or defined regions, such as provinces and territories. This means that because of these broadcast restrictions, certain NHL games won’t be available to you depending on where you live.

The following national and regional blackouts apply to NHL Centre Ice. Regional blackouts apply because the regional sports network has the rights to broadcast the NHL games in their specific area.

  • All nationally televised NHL games are blacked out.
  • Vancouver Canucks games are blacked out in British Columbia and the Yukon.

If you live in British Columbia or the Yukon, you can watch these games on Sportsnet Pacific or the Sportsnet One channel, Sportsnet Canucks.

  • Calgary Flames and Edmonton Oilers games are blacked out in Alberta, the Northwest Territories, and Nunavut.

If you live in Alberta or the Northwest Territories, you can watch these games on Sportsnet West or the Sportsnet One channels, Sportsnet Flames and Sportsnet Oilers.

  • Winnipeg Jets games are blacked out in Alberta, the Northwest Territories, and Nunavut.

If you live in the Northwest Territories, you can watch these games on TSN3.

Additionally, NHL Centre Ice doesn’t have the rights to broadcast NHL games shown on NBCSN.
