Troubleshooting issues sending or receiving email on your email app, computer, or device

Here’s what to try when you’re having issues sending or receiving email through your Northwestel email account on an email app, computer, or device.

  1. Check to make sure you’re connected to the internet. If you’re not connected, you won’t be able to send or receive mail. In a web browser, go to nwtel.ca and a few other websites. If you’re unable to connect, troubleshoot your internet connection.
  2. Restart your email app. You might also try restarting your computer or device.
  3. If you recently changed your Northwestel email password, update your password in your email app or device.
  4. Make sure that the outgoing mail server settings in your email app or device are set up correctly. To learn more, see Mail server settings.
  5. Check your outbox for unsent email. Sometimes email might get stuck in your outbox because of a large attachment or other issue. If your outbox has unsent items, delete them, and then try sending a new email. Also, check the size of the file attachment.

  3. Log in to Northwestel Webmail, and then check your inbox. If you’re getting email in your Webmail inbox but not in your email app, do the following:
    1. If you recently changed your Northwestel email password, update your password in your email app or device.
    2. Make sure that the incoming mail server settings in your email app or device are set up correctly. To learn more, see Mail server settings.
  4. If you use mail filters in Webmail, check your filter settings to make sure they're set up correctly.
