Troubleshooting remote control issues

This article explains how to troubleshoot when the remote for your set-top box isn’t working as expected. For example, try the following if your remote isn’t responding or you’re unable to control your set-top box using it.

  1. Make sure the batteries are inserted correctly.
  2. Replace the batteries. Then, test to see if the issue is resolved. If your remote still isn't working, test it with another TV.
  3. If you're still having issues, go to the next step.

Make sure there’s a clear path between your remote and your set-top box. Remove any objects that are in the way as these will block the signal.

If you have Digital TV, make sure your remote is set to Cable mode. To do this, press the Cable button on your set-top box remote.

If you can't turn your TV on or off or if you can't control the volume using your set-top box remote, your remote likely isn't programmed to work with your TV.

To learn how to program your remote to work with your TV, go to the remote control setup page, and then click the link for the remote you have.

Restarting your set-top box can often fix many issues, including remote control issues.

  1. Restart your set-top box.
  2. Test to see if the issue is resolved.
