Troubleshooting when you can't make outgoing calls
If you can receive incoming calls but can’t make outgoing calls (even though you have a dial tone) or if your phone doesn’t respond to any keys you press, try the following:
- If you get a fast busy signal or if there’s a delay in receiving a dial tone, there may be a temporary surge in phone line usage in your area. Try your call again later.
- Try a different phone to see if the same issue occurs. If you can make an outgoing call, then the issue may be with the other phone.
- Make sure the phone is set to touch-tone dialing and not pulse dialing. Check the switch, which is usually at the side or bottom of your phone. If it’s set to pulse, change it to tone.
