Troubleshooting when your phone doesn’t ring

If your phone doesn’t ring when people call but callers hear ringing on their end, try the following.

  1. Check the ringer on your phone to make sure it’s on and the volume is turned up.
  2. If you have a cordless phone, make sure the battery is charged and the phone's display screen shows the date and time. If you don't see the date and time, there may be an issue with your phone.
  3. Unplug all your devices from every phone jack. This includes phones, answering machines, fax machines, modems, splitters, and so on.
  4. Wait 60 seconds, and then plug in a basic corded phone.
  5. Use your mobile phone to call your phone or have someone else call. If your phone rings, plug in another device, and then try calling again. If your phone rings, plug in the rest of your devices one at a time, checking to see whether the phone rings after each one.
  6. If your phone doesn’t ring after you plug in a device, unplug it. That device may be causing the issue and you should have it checked or replaced.
