Troubleshooting no sound on your TV

If you get a picture but no sound on your TV, try the following to troubleshoot the issue.

Try switching to another show or channel. If you’re not getting sound on only one show or channel, it’s likely an issue with that show or channel.

If you’re not getting sound on any channels, go to the next step.

  1. Make sure your TV, set-top box, and sound system (if you’re using one) are turned on.
  2. Turn up the volume on your TV, set-top box, and sound system (if you’re using one).
  3. Make sure your sound isn’t muted. To check, press the Mute button on your set-top box remote and TV remote.

Make sure the audio cables between your set-top box and TV or sound system (if you're using one) are securely connected.

Restarting your set-top box can often fix many issues, including sound problems.

  1. Restart your set-top box<ADDLINK:How to restart your set-top box>.
  2. Test to see if the issue is resolved. If the issue persists, go to the next step.

If you’re using an external sound system, disconnect it, and then connect your set-top box directly to your TV. Doing this helps you identify whether the issue might be with the sound system.

  1. Disconnect the audio cables between your set-top box and sound system.
  2. Connect your set-top box directly to your TV.
  3. Test to see whether you hear sound on your TV. If this works and you hear sound, there may be an issue with your sound system. See the user manual or contact the manufacturer for more information.
